Being in the military has its fair share of perks if you know how to take advantage of them. A military move is not an uncommon circumstance for many servicemen and women to find themselves in, however, you may be able to get paid if you move your belongings yourself.
That is the first of the DITY move regulations you must follow. DITY moves can result in your reimbursement, which can be up to 100 percent of the Government Constructive Cost (GCC) for hiring your own military movers. Moving your own belongings can even result in an incentive payment of 95 percent of the GCC. It turns out that, although following the DITY move regulations can be stressful, they can also be profitable.
The GCC is defined as the amount that the government would have had to pay in order to cover the cost of moving your personal property during a government procured move. This amount is estimated up to, but not exceeding, your authorized weight allowance.
DITY move regulations can be partnered with other government program regulations. For example, you can ship certain household goods on a Government Bill of Landing (GBL). The balance of such (again, up the permitted weight allowance)under the DITY program. This is one way to make the most of the DITY move regulations.
